Explain to me how the token works?

Here is a short description of how it works:

At the end of every 24 hours, the supply could change depending on the rate for the day as indicated below. (Using the 2019 USD {currently ~$1.01} as the target rate)

  • Oracle rate above approximately $1.061 is positive rebase. Supply increases

  • Oracle rate between $1.061 - $0.961 no rebase. No change in supply

  • Oracle rate below $0.961 negative rebase. Supply goes down

When there is a supply increase or decrease, everyone's token will undergo the same change proportionally. Thus, if you hold 1% of AMPL when total supply is 1 million, you will still hold 1% of AMPL when the total supply is 100 million assuming you did not sell or add to your portfolio. Change in supply changes the amount of tokens you have but your share/percentage of the total supply stays the same.

Will AMPL go back to a $1 after rebase?

Unlike stable coins, there is no peg with AMPLs. The market determines the price. Ampleforth protocol NEVER resets the price to $1 during a rebase. It only affects the supply of AMPLs during a rebase. The price on the other hand is controlled by the market; buyers and sellers. As the price increases on the market, the protocol will increase the supply of AMPL to incentive market participants to sell their AMPL and drop the price back to the equilibrium range ($1.06 - $0.96) However, if demand side is higher than sell, the price will keep increasing since it's not pegged to any asset.

The same occurs when the token price falls below the equilibrium range. The supply will decrease over time and price won’t automatically move back to $1 after rebase. Buyers have to buy the token on the market to push the price to the equilibrium range (no supply change) or positive rebase ( above the equilibrium range)

Is AMPL a stable coin? What is the target price then?

Amples are not stable coins. The target price tracks the Consumer price index (CPI) rate. The target price is used by the protocol to determine whether to increase, decrease or maintain the supply.

If the rate is greater than 5% (target price) + target price.
Supply will increase since we are in a positive rebase zone. Every wallet will receive additional amples proportional to their holdings.

(+5%) - - - - - - - - - - - target price - - - - - - - - - - ( - 5%).
If the rate falls within 5% of the target of the target, then the protocol is in equilibrium. There is no price change here.

If the rate is less than 5% (target price) + target price.
Supply will decrease since we are in a negative rebase zone. Every wallet will lose amples proportional to its holding.

What is the Geyser program?

The Geyser is an incentive program for users who provide liquidity on uniswap. To participate in the Geyser, you will need to;

a. Provide liquidity on the AMPL/ETH pool. There are two ways to do this. You can provide liquidity on Uniswap or through Zapper.

The tutorials in the link below were created by one of our community members, Jeremy. https://twitter.com/Guz_MassAdopt

(i) on Uniswap; You will need equal value of AMPL and ETH. So if you want to stake $50 worth of AMPL, you will need $50 of ETH to provide liquidity on uniswap

(ii)through Zapper : Select this option if you only have ETH and do not have AMPLs.

b.You will receive UNI V2 pool tokens after step a

c. You will then deposit the UNI V2 pool tokens into the Geyser contract on https://www.ampleforth.org/geyser/ by clicking the ‘Stake’ tab. https://www.ampltalk.org/app/forum/ampl-geyser-19/topic/how-to-handle-your-amples-pt-iii-migrating-ampleth-uni-v2-supply-to-the-geyser-36/

Can I stake only AMPLs in the Geyser program?

No this isn’t possible. You will first need to be a liquidity provider before you can participate in the Geyser program

How does rebase affects the price of AMPLs?

The rebase affects the supply of AMPLs but doesn't have any DIRECT effect on the price of AMPLs. The price does not reset back to $1 after rebase. ONLY the supply changes during a rebase. Price increase or decrease is determined by the market through buying and selling activities.

If buys are more than the sell, the price will go up. This information is then sent to the AMPL protocol. To return the price towards the target rate, the protocol will increase supply of AMPLs to incentivize holders to sell their AMPL on the market to sell their AMPLs since they have a lot now and drop the price towards the target. However, a price drop to the target may not occur if there is more demand than the sell pressure.

If there are more sells on the market than buys, the price will drop over time. This information is sent to the Ampleforth protocol through oracles. If the rate is lower than the falls below the equilibrium range, the protocol will reduce the supply on the market but it will have no effect on the price. It reduces supply to incentivize buyers to buy in and push the price up the price again. Since supply is low, buyers can get more AMPL for their money and in turn return the price to the target range.

The protocol does not have a direct effect on the price but it can increase the supply of AMPL to cause holders to sell for profit and bring down the price OR decrease the supply to incentivize buyers to buy AMPL to push the price back up to the target range.. Only holders of AMPL have a direct effect on the price.

What wallet should I hold my ampls in?

You can hold AMPL in any wallet which supports Ethereum tokens such as Myetherwallet, Metamask, Trust wallet etc. Note: Only a few centralized exchange supports ampl’s rebase. Two exchanges which currently support ampl are Bitfinex and Kucoin

Where can I buy AMPLS?

Where can I track rebase of AMPLs?

Do I need to stake in the geyser for rebases?

No you do not need to stake in the Geyser for rebase. Rebase affects all wallets; whether they are participating in the Geyser or not. The rebase effect will affect all wallets containing AMPLs.

Why is the oracle rate different from price on exchanges?

The Oracle rate is usually close to the price but not always the same as the price on exchanges. The Oracle rate measures price and volume over a 24 hour period such that low volume spikes in price from whales over a short period of time won't affect the system that much.

What is the circulating/total supply of AMPLs?

AMPLs do not have a maximum supply. The total supply only refers to the supply of AMPLs at this moment. This number can increase (during a positive rebase) OR decrease (during a negative rebase). You can find information on token statistics including rebase countdown on the dashboard page at;

Where can I find time to next rebase?

You can find information on token statistics including rebase countdown on the dashboard page at;

Duration for the Geyser is only 3 months. What happens after 3 months?

Rebases have no time limit. Rebases will occur once every 24 hours. The Geyser on the other hand is a 3 month pilot program currently but the team has plans to keep it going after the pilot phase. The Geyser program is an incentive program which provides extra AMPLs to liquidity providers

Will my tokens undergo rebase if I hold them on exchanges?

Rebase affects every wallet which holds AMPLs. You can hold your AMPLs on any wallet which supports Ethereum tokens such as Metamask, Myetherwallet, Trust wallet etc.

For centralized exchanges, only two exchanges support the rebase effect. Bitfinex and Kucoin.

Do I need to do anything for rebase?

You do not need to do anything for rebases. Your wallet updates itself and shows you the new balance. It's automatic and doesn’t require any effort from you.

Does rebase involve an air drop? How do you remove tokens from my wallet during negative rebase?

There is no airdrop or token minting involved in rebases. The protocol keeps a record of your token amount relative to the entire amount. (Your percentage of the entire amount). If total supply increases by 1%, it will increase the supply of every wallet by 1%. If the total supply decreases by 1%, it will update and show your balance accordingly. It will overwrite the old balance with the new balance.

I cannot find my Uniswap token stats.

Use https://www.zapper.fi/ to check your balance

The uniswap ui won’t show your liquidity stats since the UNI V2 pool tokens have been deposited into the Geyser. However, you will still receive your Uniswap trading fees after you withdraw your Uni v2 pool tokens from the Geyser.
